Stretch MinuteTM - the easy way to stay
flexible!
Stretch Minute is the easiest way to feel less stress and more fit
without having to crowd another activity into your busy day.
How? Because Stretch Minute only takes a minute! You can do Stretch Minute in
that otherwise wasted time that happens every day:
- while you're on hold
- while you're waiting for a print-out
- while your program is compiling
Dr. John A. Prokopiak
of Sarasota, Florida, a specialist in treating repetitive stress injuries (RSI),
recommends stretching for one to two minutes every hour to reduce computer
fatigue problems that can lead to RSI. By default, Stretch Minute reminds you
once an hour to stretch.

Real stretches for real people
|
Stretch Minute gives you 21 doctor-approved stretches modeled by real people,
shown in live-action video. You'll see a different group of stretches each time
you run the program so you won't get bored. And these are the kind of stretches
people do naturally - you won't be trying to twist into a pretzel posture at
your desk.

Runs on virtually any computer
Stretch Minute runs under WindowsTM
95/98/2000/NT, Linux, SolarisTM, or any other
platform that supports Java.
Use it the way YOU want
Stretch Minute is completely
configurable - you can easily set it up to work exactly the way you want. For
example, the default setting reminds you once an hour to stretch, and it shows
you three of the available stretches each time. But if you prefer, you can turn
off the reminder and only run the video when you choose. Here are some of your
other options:
- you can change the number of stretches that play when you run the program
- you can change the number of repetitions of any stretch
- you can take stretches out of the available set so you never see them
- you can set the reminder to run at specific times of the day
- you can change the background colors on the program
Remind yourself of new habits
Stretch Minute also includes a
powerful tool to help you develop new habits: a programmable reminder. Write a
message to yourself and decide how often you want to see it - that's all there
is to it. The default message is "Check your posture" because the simple act of
straightening up and putting your feet flat on the floor is a great way to be
more comfortable. Here are some other messages people have found useful:
Rest your eyes - if your eyes get dry and scratchy from
staring at the monitor, take a break every 10 minutes or so to rest them. You
may find it soothing to rub your hands together for a moment and place your
warm palms over the eyes.
Drink a glass of water - for those of us who don't
remember to drink eight glasses of H20 a day,
set the reminder for every hour.
Visualize (fill in the blank) - stop once or twice
a day to picture yourself doing some activity perfectly. It could be a golf
swing, closing an important deal, delivering a speech confidently - whatever
you want to do better, if you picture yourself doing it successfully first, it
becomes easier.
Remember, it usually takes about a month for new behavior to become a habit.
